Interested in becoming a Crisis Intervention Volunteer?

Introduction:

Volunteers are the foundation of Sunset Area Victims Crisis Assistance and Referral Services.  It is through their selfless dedication and commitment to making a difference in the lives of victims that our services are available on a 24/7 basis. We are always looking for compassionate and caring individuals whom are interested assisting others in difficult times and helping to lessen the long-term effects of trauma.

Are you interested in helping others? Do you find yourself going above and beyond to help those in need? Do you have compassion for those whom are struggling? Are you looking for ways to give back to your community and make a difference? If you answered yes to these questions than becoming a Certified Crisis Intervention Volunteer may be for you!

Free Training:

We offer FREE, standardized online training. Volunteers become equipped with skills needed to start making a difference. Along with the online component, SAVCARS provides free in-house training to strengthen the skills and understanding of crisis intervention, and support. This training is provided by staff whom have critical experience in the field. Once you have completed the training, you will receive a Crisis Kit filled with items to assist while you are on call.

Through this training, volunteers will learn how to assist victims experiencing trauma based on their circumstances. Volunteers will develop the skills to provide emotional and practical support, referral services and emergency assistance to individuals that may be experiencing a variety of crisis situations. Listed below are some of the situations volunteers will provide assistance with as well as some of material offered in our training program.

Commitment & Requirements

  • sucessfully complete, an interview, criminal record check, and training
  • be available for a minumum of (4) chosen  12 hour shifts per month
  • have a valid drivers license and insureance/ use of acar
  • able to attend monthly meetings
  • able to volunteer for a minimum of one years time
  • be responsible for a “crisis kit”

Volunteers provide:

  • Temporary practical and emotional support
  • Arrangement of transportation
  • Referrals to long-term service providers
  • Information about coping with their crisis
  • Assistance in developing a safety plan
  • Accompanying, Assisting, Arranging Accommodations, Guiding
